Experience the culture and meet the local people on a group tour in Benin with Undiscovered Destinations

Discover Benin

Possibly the Gulf of Guinea’s least known country, Benin should be on the list of any African traveller. A country of mainly open savannah, with coffee plantations and oil palm, it is the culture and history of Benin that attracts visitors rather than any standout natural attractions.

From former slave towns and centres of the voodoo religion to the history of the Dahomey kingdom, with its grandeur and brutality, Benin (and its neighbour Togo) is a fascinating country to explore.

When visiting Benin, a visit to Abomey is a must. Abomey was once the capital of one of Africa’s greatest nations, Dahomey, whose rulers struck terror into the heart of surrounding tribes as they made war, conquered land, and captured slaves.

Feedback from our Travellers

  • Sena did not have a particularly great sense of humour, but made us feel efficiently/safely and individually cared for. which is the important thing. A very enjoyable time. Many times traveller with UD. Always had good experiences. With one trip to Sudan, had Covid problems which UD handled very well.

    Traveller from the UK

  • Our local guide, Amedee, was at the airport to meet me which was a nice touch. Usually, it's just a driver. I really appreciated the extra effort so I could ask him questions before the whole group got together. Both trips I've taken with UD have had excellent local guides and very interesting itineraries.

  • This trip was a real deviation from western standard and cultures. It was a very positive experience for me. The guides were very accommodating and did their best to meet our needs. and did great.
