Why take a short break holiday?
A two week or longer holiday is not always possible. Work and family commitments mean that many people are limited in the time they have to travel. That doesn’t mean that you can’t visit that museum you have always dreamed of, or explore a local spice market you saw on a travel program. Many once distant destinations are now closer than ever. The world is certainly getting smaller and the chance to explore is becoming easier all the time.
Short break holidays are becoming more popular as better flight connections combine with busier lifestyles. For the UK travel market, the chance to get away abroad for a long weekend or a five day break has always been limited to trips to France, Ireland, The Netherlands or possibly a long weekend in Spain.
The low cost airline sector is expanding routes throughout Europe and the Middle East. A short five day break to Jordan and visiting the historic sites of Petra is no longer exclusively for those who can afford private jets. Better connections with more fuel efficient aircraft, coupled with increased competition from low cost carriers, means that flight costs have dropped dramatically in recent years.
A return flight to Oman can be found from below £300 return at certain times of year. If you are not solely interested in lying on a beach, travelling off season for a cultural or historically focussed short break holiday makes sense. The local hotels will have ‘off season’ prices and the main attractions will be less crowded. You will not be fighting with crowds to see the sites and your time spent at the places you really want to see will be maximised.
