A unique opportunity to travel all the way by train from London to the attractive city of Split located on Croatia’s picturesque Adriatic Coast.

A thoroughly well-planned journey with all trains and hotels, together with transfers and sightseeing as shown in the itinerary arranged for you in advance.

Your adventure starts from the heart of London and the magnificent St. Pancras station. Take the Eurostar over to Paris and continue by 200mph TGV to Munich. Enjoy the ride as the train speeds across a vast wide open plateau of woods and farmland and past picturesque French villages of the Champagne region, and onto Germany. Stay overnight in Munich or extend your stay to explore more of the Bavarian capital.

The next day take a modern EuroCity train through the mountains across Austria, into Slovenia and along the River Sava to the Croatian Capital, Zagreb. Perhaps enjoy lunch in the dining car as you take in the wonderful Alpine scenery. Alternatively break your journey in Slovenia and stopover in Ljubljana and discover one of Europe’s greenest and most liveable capitals.

Enjoy a 2 night stay in Zagreb, a city made for strolling. Continue by comfortable day time train to the Adriatic Coast – a very scenic ride that takes you past mountains, lakes and rivers. Arrive in Split, Croatia’s second city where we have included a 3 night stay. End your adventure by exploring Split on a private walking tour. Or extend your trip and travel a few hours along the coast by road to the stunning city of Dubrovnik, a UNESCO World Heritage site.

Relaxed Pace

Relaxed tours are easy paced with plenty of leisure time built in. The tour will in all probability still be off the beaten track, with the occasional early start and there may still be occasional long drives. In general on a relaxed pace tour you can enjoy easy-going activities and experiences with opportunities to absorb the sights and immerse yourself in the local surroundings.

Moderate Pace

Moderate pace tours are ideal if you want a tour experience that combines activities and experiences with some time to relax. Typically you will be active and busy for part of the day but then also have time to rest and recharge your batteries. In general on a moderate paced tour there may be some long journeys involved but the tour is not an expedition or a road trip. On a moderate paced tour it will be necessary to have some early starts.

Busy Pace

A busy paced tour means that you can expect to be doing, seeing or experiencing something new almost every day, and moving on from place to place to pack in as much as possible. There may be early starts, long journeys and tiring days along the way, but you’ll return home feeling you’ve really experienced as much as you possibly could.

Pioneer Class Tours

On our Pioneer tours, you will be amongst an elite group of intrepid travellers and some of the first to explore a country that few have been privileged enough to discover. Of course, exploring such areas of the world will come with its challenges; it may mean several nights camping, long journeys by 4WD and the need to maintain a degree of flexibility for when carefully laid plans change. These are challenging tours in countries and areas that may have poor infrastructure, high levels of poverty and illiteracy. This can translate in to low standards in hotels, bad roads and poor driving standards among other issues. We try and smooth out as much of these issues as we can but you should be prepared to experience the bad with the good.

Traveller Class Tours

Our Traveller itineraries are at the core of our programme. These journeys are designed for travellers who still want to discover a land away from the tourist crowds but expect minimum standards. Accommodation will be primarily hotel based, although you could still find yourself camping, or the guest of a local family. Depending on the destination and itinerary, you’ll likely be travelling in a private vehicle, with occasional use of public transport. This is adventure travel with some of the rough edges smoothed out.

Itinerary.

Take a morning Eurostar to Paris. Upon arrival at Gare du Nord make your own way to Gare de l’Est. It takes just 10 minutes to walk between the two stations, or if you prefer a short taxi ride. From Paris take a double-decker TGV high-speed train to Munich. Sit back and relax as the train speeds across a vast wide open plateau of woods and farmland at up to 200mph and past picturesque French villages of the Champagne region. After a stop in Strasbourg the train continues over the Rhine into Germany, before heading on to Stuttgart and Munich where you will arrive at around 9.30pm. Make your own way to your hotel conveniently located very close to the station. Overnight NH Collection München Bavaria or similar.

After a leisurely breakfast you will have time to take a short stroll around Munich before boarding a modern EuroCity train for Zagreb.  From Bavaria the train travels through the mountains across Austria, into Slovenia and along the River Sava to the Croatian Capital, Zagreb. Perhaps enjoy lunch in the dining car as you take in the wonderful Alpine scenery. Alternatively break your journey in Slovenia and stopover in Ljubljana and discover one of Europe’s greenest and most liveable capitals. Arrival in Zagreb will be at around 9.30pm. Make your own way to your hotel which has been carefully selected for its very close proximity to the station. Overnight Canopy by Hilton Zagreb City Centre. (B)

For those travellers whose time is more limited there is also the option of taking an overnight sleeper train between Munich and Zagreb, therefore avoiding the need to stay overnight in Germany. However, we would recommend taking the daytime service in order not to miss out on the stunning scenery.

After a leisurely breakfast meet your guide at the hotel for a 3 hour private morning tour of Zagreb. The tour will take in the city’s top attractions, from architectural gems to cultural norms. Your experienced guide will help you to discover this charming city and some of the highlights including Park Zrinjevac, the Botanical Garden, bustling Ilica Street, and much more. Return to your hotel and enjoy the remainder of the day at leisure. Overnight Canopy by Hilton Zagreb City Centre. (B)

After a leisurely morning in Zagreb and time for lunch, take an afternoon train to the Adriatic Coast – a very scenic ride that takes you past mountains, lakes and rivers. Arrive in Split, Croatia’ second city, at around 9pm. If you are planning to travel during the summer months (mid-June to early September) there is also the option to take a morning train, which departs from Zagreb at around 7.30am and arrives in Split at about lunchtime. Upon arrival you will be met at the station and transferred to your centrally located hotel. Overnight Hotel Marul or similar. (B)

At a time of your choice meet your guide at the hotel for a morning or afternoon private excursion of Split. Explore the city on a private walking tour, and gain intimate insight into the main attractions including Diocletian’s Palace, Prokurative Square, and the city’s Gregory of Nin statue. Your experienced guide will help you to learn about the city’s Roman, Venetian, and modern history. Later return to your hotel with the remainder of the day at leisure for you to relax or to explore more of the city on your own. Overnight Hotel Marul or similar. (B)

A full day at leisure in Split for you to enjoy the city on your own. Alternatively additional guided sightseeing can be arranged locally or in advance. Overnight Hotel Marul or similar. (B)

Your tour ends after check-out from your hotel. If you are planning to take a flight a transfer to the airport will be arranged included in the cost of your tour.
