Small Group tour in Guinea Bissau and Senegal
Senegal is one of the most beautiful and diverse countries in Africa and yet remains relatively little known. A stable democracy, friendly people, bearable climate and an efficient communication system combine to make this perhaps the most accessible of African nations. Visit Djoudj National Park to view one of Africa’s largest gatherings of birdlife, then head to the charming old colonial town of St Louis with its French style architecture, exploring by traditional horse and carriage. Spend time with the semi-nomadic Fulani before travelling to the holy city of Touba, centre of Senegal’s marabout movement and a fascinating place to learn about the spiritual traditions that dominate here. We meet a Dioula monarch and get to grips with the complex belief systems here, visiting a sacred forest where we may see traditional rituals taking place, then cross to the tiny country of Guinea-Bissau. A small but beautiful country with astonishing wildlife and vibrant traditions that rival any of its larger neighbours. Here we search for manatees in the mangrove swamps and explore villages belonging to isolated ethnic groups, experiencing an Africa that few are lucky enough to see.
