India – Bikaner

Just east of the border with Pakistan and surrounded by the Thar Desert, Bikaner is famous for the Junagarh Fort.

Modern day Bikaner has developed around the fort which houses some magnificent palaces constructed in red sandstone and marble. The fort is unusual in that it is not built on a hill as many in Rajasthan are. Visitors on Bikaner tours can view an attractive assortment of courtyards, balconies, kiosks and windows.

Bikaner is also a delight for shoppers with Mojaris (Bikaneri style footwear), wooden antiques, lacquer bangles and carpets all very popular.. Bikaner is also famous for the exquisite works of art made out of camel hide.

As Seen in…

We have had the most relaxing holiday ever. Thanks for arranging everything, it all worked out perfectly. The three weeks just flew by. Having travelled around so much of India and seen so much, having the last week on the beach in Goa was just perfect.
