Sudan - Nuba People and Villages Trip rating : Pioneer Day 1 Khartoum Daytime departure from London to Khartoum. Meet and Greet with the guide, and transfer to the hotel. Check in, dinner and overnight stay. Day 2 Khartoum – Wad Medani – Jebel Moya Breakfast at the hotel. Visit the Ethnographic Museum, which shows the variety of Sudan’s populations. We depart driving South. Not far from the little town of Wadi Medani we visit the ruins of the Sultan’s Funji palace, whose dynasty ruled this part of Sudan between the 15th and 18th centuries. Dinner and overnight at the camp. Days 3, 4 & 5 Jebel Moya - Kosti – Renk - Fashoda We follow the sealed road to reach Kosti, where we cross the Nile on the only bridge over the river from here to its springs. We follow the river on its western bank on an unsealed track which goes through Renk and reaches Fashoda, a village on the Nile banks. This village became famous due to French and English troops at the end of 18th Century both trying to get this unexplored territory under their control. We are in the Shilluk’s area, a nilotic race of people, very tall and thin with deep scarifications on the face. It’s a very primitive race, and they have kept a very traditional way of living, connected predominantly to animal farming. Dinners and overnight in camp close to the villages. Days 6, 7 & 8 Kau, Niaro, Fungor, Western Nuba villages The most explorative part of the journey begins. We enter the South Kordofan region, with it’s huge savannah lands of Yellow dry grass dotted with acacia trees. In the middle of these never ending grass lands, we suddenly see some granite hills, made up of huge round boulders. As if hidden between those rocks, we find the huts of the Nuba Villages of Kau, Niaro and Fungor. The magical fascination of these little villages between the boulders is unspoiled. Dinners and overnight in camp. Days 9, 10 & 11 Talodi, Nuba Masakin’s villages We drive across the savannah land of the South Kordofan, until we reach Jebel Tosi, a granite hill where there are isome nteresting rock carvings. Not far from here we can find the area where the Nuba Masakin live. Although of Nuba origin, this ethnic group speak a different language and have totally different traditions. The Masakin people are even more welcoming than the Nuba. Their huts are very often joined for protection in groups of 4-5 buildings by a red mud fence. Dinners and overnight in camp. Days 12 & 13 Kadugli – Kauda & the mountain Nuba We reach Kadugli, the most important town in South Kordofan, where we can stock up for the following days. We drive North, to enter the mountain region. In this area we’ll have the opportunity to reach the Western Nuba villages and tribes. Dinners and overnights in camp. Days 14 & 15 Rahad - Kosti – Khartoum We keep on driving North and leave behind the Nuba region. We follow the White Nile on the main road. We have our last camp in the desert then on the 15th day we reach Khartoum and our hotel. Rooms available until departure. Dinner free.
