Papua New Guinea - People and Villages tour Day 1 (Wednesday) – Depart UK Depart London Heathrow 2205 arrive Singapore 1755+1 SQ321 Day 2 (Thursday) – Depart Singapore Depart Singapore 2025 arrive Port Moresby 0525+1 PX393 Day 3 (Friday) – Arrive Papua New Guinea Arrive in Papua New Guinea at 0525 on Air Niugini. You will then transfer on to an internal flight to Rabaul. On arrival in Rabaul, you will be met and transferred to your hotel in Kokopo, about 1 hour from the airport. Kokopo is a friendly beach town with a laid back feel. After lunch, there is a half day tour of Kokopo including Kokopo Museum, Queen Emma step, Vunapope Church and the Coconut & Cacao plantation. Overnight at Taklam Lodge, Kokopo Taklam Lodge offers clean, affordable, comfortable, centrally situated accommodation. All rooms have air-conditioning, cable TV, tea/coffee facilities and are serviced daily. Day 4 (Saturday) – Duke of York Island Today we head out to Duke of York Island by speed boat. The Duke of York islands consist of a total of thirteen islands and cover 58 km² in area. The largest island of the group is Duke of York Island. Once on the Island, you will meet your host family that you will be staying with while in the local village. Overnight on Duke of York Island in village home. Day 5 (Sunday) – Life in a local village The day is spent with the local villagers. You will get to experience how life really is for the people of the village. These are a very special couple of days that few people have or will ever have, the chance of experiencing. Overnight on Duke of York Island in village home. Day 6 (Monday) – Return to Kokopo Today, after saying our fond farewells, we return by speed boat to the relative comfort of Kokopo. Depending on the tides and weather we arrive in Kokopo mid-afternoon where the rest of the day is free time to relax. Overnight at Taklam Lodge, Kokopo Day 7 (Tuesday) – Depart for Madang An afternoon flight from Rabaul takes us to Madang. On arrival we transfer to our hotel. Colourful Madang has been called the "prettiest town in the South Pacific". Its peninsula setting is a show-place of parks, waterways, luxuriant shade trees and sparkling tropical islands. Although small, the town has modern urban facilities, including hotels, department stores, markets and artefacts shops. Overnight in Jais Aben Hotel, Madang Located on a peninsula beside the warm clear waters of the Bismarck Sea, Jais Aben was once a twenty-two acre coconut plantation. Today it is also home to a privately funded research facility, the Christiensen Research Institute which is dedicated to terrestrial and marine biological research. The accommodation at Jais Aben comprises eighteen ocean front units each overlooking small coral beaches. Each unit has ample accommodation for up to four people and all are equipped with refrigerators, and tea/coffee making facilities. Day 8 (Wednesday) – Madang Area This morning after breakfast, we head to a local wildlife reserve, about 10k south of Madang. It is ‘famous’ for featuring in scenes from the 1996 film ‘Robinson Crusoe’ featuring Pierce Brosnan. A sulphur creek flows from a huge limestone formation and it is said that spirits inhabit the site and that the water has curative properties. On returning from the reserve the afternoon is free time to explore Madang or to just relax on the beach. Overnight in Jais Aben Hotel, Madang Day 9 (Thursday) - The Highlands Highway An early morning departure from Madang by road takes us to Goroka via the Highlands Highway. On our way, we hope to stop off at a sugar plantation, the Kainantu Pottery and culture centre and Yonki dam. The dam provides power for Lae, Madang and the Highlands. We arrive into Madang in the afternoon. Overnight at the Bird of Paradise Hotel, Goroka The Bird of Paradise Hotel is conveniently located right in the centre of town, overlooking the surrounding mountain ranges. The outdoor heated swimming is set in semi-tropical gardens. The A la carte Lahani Restaurant, popular for its seafood buffet, and the Deck Bistro are the town's most popular meeting places. Day 10 (Friday) – Goroka A tour of the town of Goroka and a walk to the Keveve Water fall will be the activities today. Goroka has grown from a small outpost in the mid-1950’s to being a major commercial centre and the main town in Eastern Highlands Province. It is still a typical PNG town, but it is also on of the country’s most attractive. A green, shady, well organised place with decent shopping, transport and facilities. On the nature walk to Keveve Waterfall you will see the beautiful views and hopefully spot some of the birds unique to the area. Overnight at the Bird of Paradise Hotel, Goroka Day 11 (Saturday) – Kemase Adventure Trek The Kemase mysterious stones and caves adventure is a moderate full day trek and also includes sightseeing at a local village with a slightly worrying history. Their tribal ancestors were cannibals! Despite of that, the present villagers are friendly and welcome you to their land of mystery. (A packed lunch is included!) Overnight at the Bird of Paradise Hotel, Goroka Day 12 (Sunday) - Visit a local village for a home stay Today you will be introduced to your hosts for the next two nights and shown the village where you will be staying. Overnight at a village house Day 13 (Monday) - Village activities A full day experiencing life as it is in a Papua New Guinea village. Facilities are basic but the experience is unforgettable. Overnight at a village house Day 14 (Tuesday) – Return to Goroka After saying goodbye to our hosts we transfer back to Goroka, where we are based for the evening. Overnight at the Bird of Paradise Hotel, Goroka Day 15 (Wednesday) – Port Moresby This morning we leave Goroka and head to Port Moresby. After arrival in Port Moresby, we take an afternoon city tour including the National Parliament and the National Museum. Overnight at the Loloata Resort, Port Moresby Twenty-two beach front units accommodating up to three persons per room. All units have ensuite bathroom and balcony. Loloata Island Resort has a licensed restaurant and a fully stocked bar. Day 16 (Thursday) – Depart Papua New Guinea The morning is free before you are transferred to the airport for your departing flight.
