What you will see
Our tours will definitely appeal to the adventurous traveller, as there is a lot of travelling through the harsh terrain that makes up most of this stunning country. Travel will be by Landcruiser. All our tours include time to explore the wonderful colonial capital, Asmara. Most tours will spend time in Massawa, a port city with a distinct Arabic flavour. From Massawa, the tours will include a trip to the Dahlak islands, where there will be an opportunity to snorkel and marvel at one of the best coral sites in the world. The islands are home to a large number of nesting sea birds, including the Arabian bustard and osprey. For those who want to explore further south our programme includes a pioneering Desert Safari covering the length of the Dankalia, with plenty of opportunity to meet the local Afar people.
Given the high temperatures we will camp en-route on a beach, allowing you plenty of time to take in this amazing lunar landscape that follows the Red Sea. Truly an expedition-style journey for those who want to discover one of the remotest places on earth. Heading back in to the interior, we also offer a unique opportunity to experience one of the world’s greatest rail journeys, probably the best in the whole of Africa. With sufficient numbers we will hire the local train, built by the Italians 100 years ago. The old steam locomotives have been restored and the 3 hour trip is a fantastic way to see some of the most stunning scenery in Eritrea.
