Our extended itinerary will take you to the little visted interior of the Congo. The tour is identical to the Interior and Pygmy Culture tour except that the adventure continues after our return to Kinshasa. We travel to the Malebo Pool and a visit to a small village located on a sandbank. Here we will meet the village Chief and take lunch. Also included in the extended itinerary is a visit to Chutes de Lukia, an area with natural lakes to swim in and a Bonobo (pygmy chimp) orphanage. Overnight Residence Mutchimba or similar Day 3 - Kinshasa to Mbandaka Hotel to airport transfer for scheduled flight to Mbandaka Transfer from the airport to our comfortable tented camp in Mbandaka. Overnight tented camp in Mbandaka Day 4 - Travel by 4X4 to rural village Overnight tented camp in rural village. Day 5 - Travel by dug-out canoe Overnight tented camp in rural village. Day 6 - Travel by dug-out canoe Overnight tented camp in Birkoro. Day 7 - Travel by 4X4 Overnight tented camp in State Reserve. Day 8 - Trek in tropical rainforest Overnight tented camp in State Reserve. Day 9 - Travel by 4X4 Overnight tented camp in Mbandaka. Day 10 - Mbandaka to Kinshasa Airport to hotel transfer Overnight Residence Mutchimba or similar Day 11 -Malebo Pool and village excursion Breakfast at the hotel Transfer to the village of Kinkole where we join a small boat to travel upstream to the small village of Mangengenge. Reception on arrival by the village Chief, followed by lunch. We continue our excursion and if possible reach a second village, Lukula, which is located on a sandbank. Return to Kinkole and transfer to our Kinshasa hotel Dinner Overnight Residence Mutchimba or similar Day 12 - Kinshasa Breakfast at the hotel Morning visit to local workshops, where we will be able to see local craftsman at work. Typical crafts include bronze, wood culpture, paintings and furniture making. Following lunch we will continue to the ‘Gare Central’, Kinshasa’s main market where we will have the opportunity to buy souvenirs. Time permitting we will also visit the ‘Symphonie des Arts’ known for its fine art products. Overnight Residence Mutchimba or similar Day 13 - Chute de Lukaya and Bonobo (pygmy chimp) orphanage Breakfast at the hotel We travel in the direction of Bas-Congo, arriving at Chute de Lukaya, an area known for its lakes, which are ideal for a refresshing swim. We will then visit a nearby orphanage for Bonobos, whose parents have been killed by hunters. Along with chimpanzees, Bonobos are genetically our closest living relatives. The sanctuary, ‘Les Amis des Animaux au Congo’ (‘The Friends of Animals in Congo’) was set up by Claudine André as a non-profit organization whose principal goal is to protect endemic species. Return to our Kinshasa hotel Dinner Day 14 - Full Day Excursion Breakfast at the hotel Morning city tour before visiting the fishing village of Kinkole and its market. From Kinkole return to Kinshasa by boat with lunch served on board. After visit to the rapids at Kinsuka before returning to the hotel. Dinner Overnight Residence Mutchimba or similar Day 15 - Kinshasa to London Heathrow via Brussels or Paris Hotel to airport transfer Evening departure Day 16 - Arrive London Heathrow Please note Travel in the DR Congo can be very challenging.
