Our trips start and end in Kinshasa, the capital of the Democratic Republic of Congo, which used to be referred to as "Kin La Belle" - meaning "Beautiful Kinshasa". The many years of turmoil have somewhat dented this image. But slowly and surely, Kinshasa is regaining its splendor. Some of the major sites include the "Grand Marché", the tomb of former President Laurent Kabila, the "Gare Central" and ”Symphonie des Arts” for those who like African art, the rapids of Kinsuka are just downstream from the city and the Bonobo Reserve, a sanctuary for orphaned Bonobo’s, one of the five Great Apes, and the closest to mankind. The bonobo, or pygmy chimpanzee, is one of the most threatened ape species in the world today. Discovered in 1928, the bonobo could be the first great ape to become extinct. It is estimated that bonobo numbers have fallen from 100,000 in 1980 to just 10,000 in 1990.

From the capital we take a scheduled flight into the interior to discover the tropical rainforest and fascinating Pygmy culture. Our most popular trips are based on the axis Mbandaka – Bikoro in the Equator Province. Travel is only possible by jeeps and “pirogues”, a traditional dug-out canoe.

We use the rivers, as the locals do, as our highway to explore a truly unique landscape, delving deep into the rainforests, visiting small villages and a people completely untouched from the outside world. The rainforest is all around us, alive with spectacular flowers, birds, insects and animals. Our travels will be challenging, and as foreign tourists extremely pioneering. However the rewards are all around us, as we are amongst the first of a few privileged travellers to get up close to nature in its purest form and to immerse ourselves in a culture so alien to the developed world.
