Practical Information Visas Getting to Comoros Immunisations Travel Insurance Foreign Office Advice
A visa is required for all visitors to Comoros. You must have onward plane tickets. Thirty-day visas can be obtained upon arrival, but can only be paid for in euros, and there are no money-changing facilities at the airport. At the time of writing the fee is €5. It should also be noted that a visa is required by many nationalities for Tanzania, as our regular programme involves an overnight stop in Dar es Salaam. The main Indian Ocean airline, Air Austral has regular flights from Réunion and Mayotte to Moroni on Grande Comore. In addition Moroni is connected by regular flights from Antananarivo with Air Madagascar. Another option, which is perhaps unsurprising given the Comoro’s historical connections with the Middle East, is a direct link from Sanaa, Yemen, with Yemenia Airways. However, probably the most convenient route for travellers from Europe is the thrice weekly service with Air Tanzania from Dar es Salaam. Although this may involve an overnight stop in one direction in the Tanzanian capital, it is still generally the quickest and cheapest option.
As with travel to most parts of the Africa, we strongly recommend that you contact your Doctor’s surgery or a specialist travel clinic for up-to-date information, advice and the necessary vaccinations. For a visit of less than one month, almost certainly you will be advised to have immunisations against the following: Diphtheria and Tetanus, Hepatitis A and B, Polio and Typhoid. Anti-malaria medication will also be recommended. The use of a DEET-containing insect repellent is recommended.
