Angola profile <back to tour listings Practical Information Visas Getting to Angola Immunisations Travel Insurance Foreign Office Advice Visas < Back to top At the time of writing most nationals, including British and other European citizens, require a visa. In the case of British nationals a visa can be obtained through the Angolan Embassy in London. A letter of invitation will be required from our representative in Angola, which we will obtain approximately two months before departure. The visa will then be issued by the London Embassy, which takes about two weeks. Getting to Angola < Back to top This will depend on your chosen tour. Our Southern Explorer and Angolan Beach Adventure tours are based on travel to and from the southern city of Lubango. At the time of writing Lubango has one international route, a weekly flight from the Namibian capital, Windhoek. Accordingly these tours are designed around this TAAG Angolan Airlines flight, which offers a good connection with Air Namibia’s non-stop service from London Gatwick. The exception to the above is our Coastal Explorer tour, which starts in Luanda and ends in Lubango. We generally use TAP Air Portugal flights to Luanda via Lisbon, which connect on the last day of the tour with a domestic flight from Lubango. Immunisations < Back to top As with travel to most parts of Africa, we strongly recommend that you contact your Doctor’s surgery or a specialist travel clinic for up-to-date information, advice and the necessary vaccinations. For a visit of less than one month, almost certainly you will be advised to have immunisations against the following: Diphtheria and Tetanus, Hepatitis A, Typhoid, Meningitis and if travelling from certain other African countries, Yellow Fever. Anti-malaria medication will also be required and the use of a DEET-containing insect repellent is highly recommended. Travel Insurance < Back to top We have a legal obligation to stress the absolute need to have adequate travel insurance, which should be taken at the time your trip is confirmed. These days there is a huge range of options available and premiums have never been more competitive. Increasingly annual multi-trip policies offer good value for money, but you should compare the level of cover and the activities included with each policy. Please contact us for further details. Foreign Office Advice < Back to top We constantly monitor the advice posted by the British Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO). In particular we will always advise clients of any travel warnings. At the time of writing the Foreign Office does advise against all but ‘essential’ travel to certain areas of Angola. However, these areas are not covered on our programme. Our partner in Angola is highly experienced and has been working in the country for a number of years. Safety of our clients is paramount. Although it is essential to be aware of the risks involved in any overseas travel of this nature, it is nonetheless important to consider the vastness of the country and that any on-going problems in Angola are relatively localised to areas that our tours do not pass through.
